About the Item

19th century sunset coastal seascape, an oil on canvas impressionist seascape with gaff-rigged sloop ashore at low tide, other sails in bay under a sunset sky, unsigned. Great use of reflection and shadowed light in the foreground, and delicate sunset (or sunrise?) hues in the sky that are subtle and inoffensive. Mounted in its original heavy carved and gilded frame. Painting and frame both remain in very good condition. Measures: 13 ¼ in H x 16 ½ in W overall.
