About the Item

Marine, a small port with oil painting sailboats on panel dimension 13 cm by 18.5 cm by J. Hurard (1887-1956). Hurard was born in Avignon in 1887, he worked first in a drugstore. Selling fabrics and colors to Avignon artists, he finds Sunday to paint with them. His talent noticed, it is part of the "Group of Thirteen" created in 1912 by Clement Brown he is the youngest. He became friends with Joseph Meissonier and participates with the group to a first exposure December 21, 1912 who knows a great success, followed by a second exposure December 18, 1913, which is also the last of Group1. In this crucible, he attended the elders already affected by fame as Lina Bill or Auguste Chabaud. Among the most talented designers of his generation, painting with ease, it was soon noticed. He died in Martigues in 1956.
