About the Item

Alessandro Mantovani (Ferrara 1814 – Rome 1892) Red Grapes / White Grapes Pair of oil paintings on canvas, each signed and dated A. Mantovani 1880 Framed as a companion set A fine and balanced pair of still-life paintings depicting red and white grapes, by the Italian painter and restorer Alessandro Mantovani. Known for his refined technique and harmonious compositions, Mantovani’s works reflect the meticulous naturalism typical of Italian painting in the late 19th century. Born in Ferrara in 1814, Mantovani studied under Gaetano Domenichini and Giuseppe Migliari. He later moved to Rome, where he worked as a restorer, notably assisting in the restoration of the Loggias of Raphael and Giovanni da Udine in the Vatican. Alongside his restoration work, Mantovani developed a parallel career as a painter of easel works, producing finely detailed still lifes that are today represented in several public and private collections, including the Pinacoteca di Ferrara.
