About the Item
This is an original Danish coal drawing showing a bust-length portrait in three-quarter view, facing slightly to the viewer's right. The portrait is likely drawn after a classical or renaissance-style bust which is typical of the academic training at the academy of arts.
The figure has shoulder length hair and heavy-lidded eyes. The neckline is shallow and suggests an ancient roman or greek-style garment. The technique is tonal modelling with an emphasis on light and shadow.
The drawing is from the 1920s and signed in the bottom left corner by Niels Kyhn. It is in good condition with some stains at the paper and a fold at the bottom (please see the photos).
