Antique framed oil painting on canvas by G. Hodeige dated 1936 is an exquisitely well preserved impressionist work by a master of light and shadowplay rendered of a waterside cityscape that harks back to a bygone era. The city in the background is inspired by Paris as seen along the Seine, where in the old city all of the buildings were kept to a maximum height for a variety of reasons. The busy waterside area spurs the imagination of street vendors, seafood markets, and a bustling activity that begins in the early morning hours. The fishing vessels that are the primary focus of the artist's attentions have finished their work for the day and have nets hung out to dry. Note the exceptional technique in the reflection of the water, with a full diffuse light pervading the entire work. Survives in its splendidly preserved, beautifully fashioned gold frame to provide a focal centerpiece for your room.
