Antique Print 'The Hunter’s Awakening', Germany late 19th century
This piece is a color lithograph titled 'The Hunter’s Awakening' from the 19th century. It’s a satirical artwork in which the animals that are usually hunted accompany the hunter instead. Created by artist Jean Frederic Wentzel (1807–1869), the lithograph is part of a series of his graphic works. The scene depicts a hunter surrounded by various animals, including deer, hares, and wild boars. In a humorous twist, the animals appear to pull or accompany the hunter’s cart, playfully reversing the traditional roles of hunter and prey. This artwork is a fine example of 19th-century satirical art that reflects on the theme of hunting and society’s relationship with nature. Framed in a wooden frame behind glass.
