About the Item

Rich with color and a Maxfield Parrish-like wry humor, this original gouache painting was executed by a student with the initials JK for an annual vaudeville and dance event put on for the older students of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. The fool is shown in profile, with his hat ringed with bells and his hair cut in a Prince Valiant, medieval style. This is an important snapshot of art student life in the 1910s!
