Large Oil On Canvas Painting, "The Bathing Pool" After Hubert Robert, in giltwood frame. Robert was renowned for his imaginative landscapes depicting ancient ruins as picturesque settings for everyday life in the late 18th century. This painting is a scene centered on a circular classical ruin, reminiscent of an ancient Roman temple, its weathered stone columns partially overtaken by twisting trees and lush foliage. Tall evergreens rise dramatically into soft, cloud-filled sky, painted in muted blues, pale celadon, and warm cream tones. In the foreground, a tranquil bathing pool anchors the composition. Small classical figures of men, women, and children are shown bathing, reclining, and conversing along the stone steps and water's edge. Carved stone fountains, sculptural figures, and architectural fragments are interspersed throughout. The painting is housed in a later ornate giltwood frame, richly carved with scrolling acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and beaded detailing.
