Antique Bay of Naples Gouache Seascape with Vesuvius Erupting, 1906, a fine gouache on paper seascape with the panoramic Bay of Naples stretching wide, with Mt Vesuvius erupting in the background, two Neapolitan fishing boats in the foreground, titled and dated lower center.
These Neapolitan scenes were very popular among people taking the Grand Tour abroad, and also a favorite with sailors with a port of call in Italy. Very nicely done, with a great, calm feel, and remaining in fine condition. The simple wooden frame is likely the original to the piece.
