A mixed media on canvas black painting with texture by Mexican artist Beatriz Zamora. The painting is signed and numbered on the back; it is undated.
Beatriz Zamora (1935) is a Mexican painter from the Rupture Generation (Generación de la Ruptura). She has worked her black paintings, all of them titled "El Negro" for more than 40 years. Her painting is the product of an intense search for the purity of color, the Earth, the darkness, the truth, the nothingness, the absolute and the infinite behind the pictorial surface. Zamora has produced more than 3,500 painting with the same title. She works with minerals and natural soil to "arrive to the black". Zamora's black creates, as curator Paola Santoscoy wrote, "a non-horizon, atypical to painting".
