About the Item
This must be one of Hans Osswald best works. We have several in our collection. This black one is made of different materials and creates an interesting relief. oil painted black with different shades of black depending on where you are looking at. Some part are matt and others a bit satin. The results looks like a piece by master Pierre Soulages. The frame is patinated white wood. Some traces of time on the art work. Still very nice. Signed on bottom (left).
Hans Osswald 1919-1983
Hans August Osswald (originally Andersson) was born on 29th August 1919 in Örebro. He was a Swedish painter and book illustrator.
Osswald first exhibited at Louis Hahnes Konsthandel, Stockholm in 1947. Other exhibitions include Örebro (1951), Kalmar (1952), Dalarnas Art Association in Falun; ABF, Ludvika (1951) and a 'Graphic and Sculpture? (Grafik och Skulpturs) travelling exhibition in 1953.
Examples of his work can be seen at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum, Eskilstuna museum and The Brooklyn Museum, New York.
Osswald died in Malmö in 1983, aged 64.
