Primitive modernist oil painting on homasote board of a male and female figure ( a self portrait of Leon and his wife Thelma ) by self taught artist Zoute ( Leon Salter 1903-1976 North Rose, NY ) Brilliant glowing colors and dynamic imagery. This is one of his early works, signed Zoute 41 bottom right. Reminiscent of the work of Cobra group painters Karel Appel / Corneille and French self taught art brut style painter Gaston Chaissac.
