About the Item
A beautiful California mountain landscape with cows, oil on canvas, by listed artist Carl Henrik Jonnevold (1856-1955). Jonnevold was born in Norway and immigrated to the United States, becoming an impressionist landscape painter who worked primarily in the San Francisco area of California. "Jonnevold" signature in the lower right.
Canvas measures 12" x 16" x 1"
Outside of frame measures 18.5" x 22.5" x 2"
Ready to hang and enjoy! The old canvas has been secured in a contemporary plein-air style black and silver wood picture frame. There are two surface abrasions in the canvas, see last two photos. The abrasion in the clouds is 3/4" long; the abrasion in the greenery is 1/4" long.
Painted canvas is in as found condition. Slightly dark overall from age though the image pops when lit properly. The canvas is slightly slack allowing the stretcher impressions to be visible, see photos. Two abrasions in the surface of the canvas, see last 2 photos. The canvas could benefit from a visit to a professional art conservator but it is not necessary to enjoy the painting. The contemporary wood frame fits the canvas beautifully, securing the 100+ year old canvas, and accents the painting in the best possible way.
