About the Item
This exquisite Indian miniature painting is a 19th-century reproduction of the Chamba School painting "Portrait of Rāj Singh of Chamba," dated circa 1785. Beautifully honoring the original painting with delicate brushwork and intricate detail, the painting depicts the Rāja of Chamba seated beneath a pavilion smoking from a hookah and holding a hawk in one hand. Before him is his infant son Jit Singh, seated on the lap of an attendant with his hands outstretched towards the bird. Skillfully painted by a talented artist, this framed miniature honors the original with a soft array of colors and the finishing touch of shimmering gold pigments.
