About the Item

Exuberant and vividly painted, this painting depicts the circus big top on the edge of a small town, with a wagon to one side, a pair of elephants waiting for their moment, and two children rushing toward the action. The painting is by Anne Walker, a Maryland artist who was part of the Snallygaster School of painters mentored by Charles Walther. Walther was well-known for attracting the attention and support of Alfred Barr at MoMA, Duncan Phillips and the Cone sisters. (Dimensions include frame.).
