About the Item
Contemporary abstract painting titled "Abstract Pictures" in the style of Gerhard Richter.
Instead of traditional brushes, Richter uses a massive, homemade squeegee. He drags thick layers of wet oil paint across the canvas, which creates a "controlled accident."
He builds up vibrant layers of color and then scrapes them away. This process reveals the colors underneath, creating a sense of depth and archaeological "digging" through the paint.
The squeegee moves too fast and covers too much area for the artist to have total control. Richter enjoys this "planned spontaneity," where the final image is a result of physical force and chance.
