About the Item
This is a stunning religious painting of the crucifixion. Stumbled upon this painting in a rural European town in the back of this guy's workshop. Given the arched top of the frame, this painting was probably originally intended for a chapel, altar or a private devotional space.

Oil on canvas, arched top, presented in a period-style wooden frame.
A moving devotional depiction of the Crucifixion, showing Christ nailed to the cross beneath the inscription INRI (Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum). The figure of Christ is sensitively modeled, his head bowed in resignation, draped in a white perizoma, and illuminated against a darkened atmospheric background with distant architectural forms. The restrained palette of earthy browns and ochres, together with the softly blended chiaroscuro, reflects Baroque influence while emphasizing solemnity and meditation over dramatic intensity.
*There appears to be one minor scratch towards the bottom left of the canvas, but otherwise the painting has been very well maintained for its age.
