About the Item
Highly stylized and rich with geometric forms -- including concentric circles, stacks of triangles and a lightning bolt motif -- this original painting was clearly made for an Art Deco rug design in the 1920s or 30s. Bohm grew up in Bohemia and was trained in Dresden, but after meeting Gösta Bohm, a Swedish artist, she settled in Sweden for the rest of her life. The artist was involved in fabric design as well as easel painting, and her work was increasingly influenced by Art Deco forms and Cubism in the 1930s and 40s. The painting is gouache and watercolor, and is monogrammed in the lower righthand corner. The reverse includes a note by the artist. Dimensions include matte and frame; visible painting is 5.75 inches high by 4.5 inches wide.
