Oil on canvas representing the inner courtyard of the Doges Palace in Venice, in 1889.
Swedish School, bears the signature of Frans Wilhelm ODELMARK and the date 1889.
He studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm and after that in Düsseldorf and in Munich. He painted people in everyday live and picturesque architectural subjects, mainly with subjects from Europe and the Orient, staying in Egypt for an extended period and where he made many colourful paintings of Cairo. He executed works in watercolor, pastel and oil.
A very beautiful capture of light of this courtyard, with on the right the facade of Antoine Rizzo (1483-1498), at the background the clock and the arch of the Foscari which opens on the stairway of the Giants.

An attractive canal scene featuring the Ducal Palace, Venice by Alfred Pollentine. The view is taken close to the mouth of the Grand Canal towards The Ducal or Doge’s Palace and the Molo. To the left of the Palace on the Molo, can be seen the two columns of St Mark and St Theodore at St Mark’s Square. The columns marked the original entrance used by officials and distinguished visitors to Venice.
