This charming peaceful romantic scene shows a fine summer day in a hilly landscape near the sea.
The blue sea surrounds a peninsular with a fortress on a hill. There is an isolated building with a fenced off field, an arch and stables. Cheerful clouds reveal blue mountains in the background. A wanderer is resting underneath a tree, another is leaving the foreground in direction of the buildings and the arch. On a cliff in the right foreground of the painting there is an elegant gentleman wearing a top hat, red jacket and knickerbockers, and he is leaning on his walking stick. He is engaged in conversation with a lady sitting by some tree trunks and a lad slouching on a trunk.
