About the Item

Ed Mell is an American painter inspired by the Arizona and Sonoran Desert. The dramatic skies, landscapes, gorgeous sites of nature are subjects Ed Mell interprets with sophisticated intricacy of design and palette. Ed Mell is one of America's most iconic artists, celebrated for his highly personal style inspired by the dynamic skies, landscapes, and spirit of the Arizona region. Ed Mell describes his painting style as “desert modernism" He utilizes the expressive realism and abstraction as mood and inspiration strike him. Ed Mell masterfully blends abstraction with realism to capture the essence of the vast Southwest landscape and moments of a luminous Sonoran Desert sunset Ed Mell painted "Desert Vibe Sunset" to commemorate the 2nd Annual Copperstate 1000 classic car rally The painting is depicting Bugatti Delahaye with a dramatic Arizona landscape in the background and a breathtaking colors of the sunset. It is one of the very few paintings having a car as a subject. Ed Mell always had great interest and passion for automobiles which he studied in art school, Ed Mell created a painting each year as a fund raising for the Copperstate 1000, in which he also participated. Ed Mell's art is in the private collections of renowned galleries and famous celebrities around the world. Ed Mell said: “There are subtle guys and there are guys who like to shout. I like people to see the pictures and be taken aback. I make it theater. I am not dealing conceptually with the subject of landscape. I am not playing a game with my art. I want the drama. I know the drama works". “There are a lot of collectors of art who love the Southwest but who want to see it portrayed in a contemporary manner, not romanticized.”

Mid Century Desert Cactus Sunset Landscape by Russell Dale Moffett
By Russell Dale Moffett
Located in Soquel, CA
Mid Century Desert Cactus Sunset Landscape by Russell Dale Moffett Experience the splendor of the desert at sunset in this stunning mid century landscape by Russell Dale Moffett (American, 1899-1984). This striking 1959 landscape features tall cacti casting long shadows as they are bathed in warm light by an orb of golden sun. As the sky lights up in a burst of color, the desert sands are illuminated in a beautiful warm glow. Russell Dale Moffett's impressive attention to detail and realistic style leave a lasting impression on the viewer. Signed "Russell Dale Moffett" lower right. Presented in a giltwood frame. Canvas size: 24"H x 30"L. Framed size: 37"H x 31"W x 2"D. Regarded as a quintessential outsider artist, Russell Dale Moffett’s work has begun to attract collectors’ serious attention. Born in Indiana, by 1942 he had settled in San Diego and was a muralist. A large proportion of his output was created to decorate the bars and dives of those honky-tonk neighborhoods in downtown San Diego that catered to the soldiers and sailors that passed through in the boom war years when it was a liberty town. Much of his work must have been lost to gentrification and urban renewal. Some of it is just now coming to light. One of eight lost Hawaiian Surfer...
