Portrait of a German Princess with a Sash and Insignia of a Knightly Order European School, 18th Century " German Princess " Large-format oil on canvas depicting a German princess, richly dressed in lace, wearing an ermine mantle and the characteristic sky-blue sash of a knightly order, of which she wears the insignia on her chest. The high and voluminous hairstyle, along with the detailed treatment of her clothing, reflects the Central European courtly taste of the 18th century. The work conveys the solemnity and power of the sitter, a symbol of her rank and prestige.
