About the Item
Beautifully painted and with an arresting subject, this piece -- with its male nude subject having removed his own fig leaf -- reveals the sly humor of its painter, Leon Dusso, a major figure in 1940s Hollywood. Dusso was the son of a major art director at Paramount Pictures, and was introduced to art at an early age. After years as a makeup art, he turned to painting, studied under Archipenko, and exhibited widely. His paintings were shown at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art among others, and are in the collection of the Dallas Museum of Art. The medium is oil on board.
