About the Item

Oil on canvas depicting a still life with game, fowl, and fruit, circa 18th century or earlier. It shows a variety of elements, including game and fowl (dead hare, peacock and exotic birds), fruit (plums, grapes, cherries and other fruits in bowls and on a table,) animals (cats or monkeys and fish are also visible in the composition) and other objects (a horn, a jug, basin). The painting is in the style of a "nature morte" or still life, a genre common in Dutch and Flemish art of the 17th and 18th centuries. The painting is presented in a black paint decorated and gesso frame with cross stretcher as shown on back. Dimensions: Frame: 69" L x 36 7/8" H x 1 1/2" D Canvas: 65 1/4" L x 33 1/4" H Condition: Please see detail photos. Various signs of age include old repairs visible on back, a few tears to canvas as shown in the photos, wear/chipping/losses to frame all being mentioned for accuracy as the presentation is colorful and superb.
