About the Item

Fine 19th century English oil on canvas: Portrait of a dog, after Edwin Landseer. The verso photo documented, original canvas, Initialed W M May 1882. Based on a drawing of Landseer's Scottish deerhound done in circa 1835. Subsequent engravings were done based on this drawing also, titled "Hafed the deerhound" Beautifully painted. Professionally conserved with a lining and cleaning. Photo of the old canvas with initials and date. Artist initials W M unknown. Antique frame.
