About the Item
A very colorful, early 20th century original oil painting on canvas board. Sourced in France, this modernist artwork is signed by the artist and colorist, B. Kielwasser, but not dated. The painting features the shoreline of a fortified town in the early morning or evening light.
The painting is framed in an ornate, hand-painted and hand-carved wooden frame. Even though the frame fits perfectly with the painting, it is clearly older than the painting itself (19th century) and has thus been recycled.
The painting is in good vintage condition. The canvas board has not been cleaned but left with its original patina. The painting has no flaws and the colors are vivid. The 19th century frame is in distressed vintage condition. The frame shows signs of age and wear, especially on the corners and the sides (see photos). There is a long section missing on the inner right side of the frame (see images). The frame could use some restoration. There is no backing paper on the painting, only traces of an old backing paper from the time the frame was first used. The frame has no structural instability.
