About the Item
Framed Oil on Canvas, "A Day at the Beach" by Elisabeth R Fulda, NY, 1879-1968. Elisabeth (Elizabeth) Rungius Fulda was a painter, sculptor and etcher. This impressionistic painting captures a leisurely day at the beach. She worked at the American Museum of Natural History were there is a large collection of her paintings. She was a member of The Artists Union and the National Association of Women Artists. Fulda was a student of Carl Rungius, August Gaul and Richard Friese. The painting is framed in an original Newcomb-Macklin gilt frame from the mid 20's. The painting has always been under glass, it has never been touched or cleaned and the vibrant colors are as originally painted. The beach scene is similar to other American artists from this period who painted beach scenes including; William Merritt Chase, Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Jane Peterson.
