About the Item

A French oil on canvas landscape painting from the 19th century, depicting a scene of everyday life in a village. Created in France during the 19th century, this horizontal format oil on canvas painting depicts a humble, everyday life scene. Bathed in a golden light, the painting showcases a humble hamlet on the left, flanked by a large tree creating a strong vertical line standing out beautifully on the blue sky accented with fluffy clouds. Male and female figures in the front are busy doing laundry at a local "lavoir" (wash house), or docking a small boat close to the steps leading to the hamlet. To the right, the lock is releasing some of the water. Showcasing earthy tones, the painting is set inside a simple giltwood frame. With its exquisite depiction and peaceful subject, this French oil on canvas landscape painting from the 19th century will make for a wonderful addition to any home, hung above a side table or chest of drawers.
