This charming small French oil on panel kitten painting from the early 20th century, signed by renowned animal painter Jules Gustave Le Roy (1856-1921), captures the heart with its delightful subject matter. Specializing in cats and kittens, Le Roy masterfully portrays three adorable kittens sitting on a piece of fabric. Jules Leroy
Jules LeRoy was a Victorian painter, born in France, in 1856, the son of the still life painter, Jules LeRoy Sr. He was renowned for his paintings of cats, executed in both oils and watercolors. Paintings of pets were highly coveted by the wealthy upper classes of the 1800s and LeRoy's charming compositions of mischievous cats in domestic interiors were particular favorites. His works remain just as popular today, found in important private and public collections, such as the Musée d'Art et d'Industrie, in Roubaix, France.
