About the Item
A stunning and very finely produced antique Georgian original framed silhouette portrait of a gentleman dating from the 18th century. The portrait mounted in a thick carved wooden frame is hand painted in black on glass with a slight convex angle. The portrait is a side profile with excellent detail and very well executed of a gentleman wearing a cravat and jacket. The portrait is set against a cream-colored paper background and has its original sealed paper backing to the reverse of the frame. A small and simple swivel hanging loop is attached to the top of the frame to enable it to be hung. The portrait is unmarked and the sitter has not been identified but probably of Royalty or noble descent and warrants further research.
An original period example in very good condition with wear associated with age and use.
