A modern Impressionist oil painting on canvas titled “Route dans le Champs” by Gérard Passet. Signed lower right. Title and signed on verso. Circa 1970s. The composition captures a quiet country road winding through golden wheat fields beneath a bright summer sky. The composition is rich with texture and movement, as tall cypress trees frame the left side and soft shadows fall across the path. Distant white cottages dot the sunlit hills, evoking a peaceful rural charm. Passet’s expressive brushwork and warm palette reflect the enduring beauty of the French countryside.
Provenance: From the collection of Northwood University in Midland, Michigan; proceeds of the sale will go towards the University’s endowment. Dimensions: 32”h x 38”w x 2”d (framed). In very good vintage condition. Full condition reports are available upon request.
Gérard Passet (French, 1936–2013) was a celebrated French painter born in Villeneuve-le-Roi in 1936. A pupil of Marcel Roch and Goerg, he later became chief of Yves Brayer’s studio at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. Known for his vibrant Impressionist landscapes, Passet exhibited widely across France and internationally beginning in 1961, gaining critical acclaim and numerous awards. His accolades include the prestigious Taylor Prize (1959), the Youth Grand Prix at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts (1959), and multiple medals from the City of Paris. His work is represented in major institutions including the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, the Musée Cantini in Marseille, and the Musée de l'Île-de-France in Sceaux. Passet’s paintings are also held in the collections of the French government and the City of Paris.
