About the Item

A remarkable German oil on canvas still life painting by Joseph Wilms. The painting depicts a wonderfully executed still life scene of grapes, plums, an apple, and a piece of vine surrounding a glass while all set on an elegant white table cloth. The painting is framed within an elegant giltwood frame with lightly fluted mottled designs and richly carved wrap around berried laurel and beaded bands. Joseph Wilms (1814-1892) also known as Peter Joseph Wilms was a German painter born in Bilk. He was a student at the Académie de Düsseldorf in the workshop of Wintergerst of Th. Hildebrand W. von Schadow. He established himself in Düsseldorf where lived for the rest of his life.
