About the Item
Gregoire Johannes Boonzaier OMSS was a South African artist well known for his landscapes, portraits and still life paintings. He was a famous exponent of Cape Impressionism, a founder of the New Group, and a contributor, through his art works, to the struggle against apartheid.
He visited England in 1934 to continue his learning and visited Newlyn Cornwall during his time in England where this painting was executed .
Later in 1948 several of his painting were exhibited in the Tate Gallery in their exhibition showcasing South African Art.
He held over one hundred one man exhibitions during his career and was awarded The Order for Meritorious Service for artistic endeavour by Nelson Mandela in 1999

- Condition:Repaired: 2 very small inch long tears have been expertly restored and the painting has been sympathetically cleaned . The frame is original and the size given includes the frame. The painting is now at a museum level of presentation and condition. Wear consistent with age and use.
