About the Item
This painting belongs to a series of works that Alessandro Tofanelli painted on the huts of hunters and fishermen of the San Rossore Natural Park. The huts are still intact and are protected like the whole territory that extends along the coastal strip of the provinces of Pisa and Lucca.
An uncontaminated and protected area that is forbidden to the public, where everything has remained as it was at the beginning of the 1900s, where many species of animals, birds, insects, reptiles, plants and flowers live their lives in a perfect, clean and uncontaminated microclimate with the absence of human beings.
There is a sense of both tranquility and abstraction; the landscape feels real yet slightly otherworldly. The colors are vibrant but cohesive, and the composition is carefully balanced with strong horizontal and vertical lines. The inclusion of a boat on a serene greenish river or canal to the lower left hints at quiet activity, while the isolated location of the treehouse evokes solitude and introspection.
Tofanelli’s characteristic approach is evident: blending realism with a dreamlike atmosphere, focusing on light, color, and the quiet poetry of rural spaces. The painting invites the viewer to linger, exploring details and contemplating the mysterious beauty of the solitary retreat high above the landscape.
