About the Item
We present this fantastic oil painting on plywood dating back to the early decades of the 20th century. The painting bears the signature A. Scocchera at the bottom left (see photo). Attributable to the Italian painter Alfredo Scocchera (Baselice, 1887 – Milan, 25 January 1955), painted without authentication.
This is a painting of great artistic quality, in which the painter's sensitivity towards the representation of nature is clearly visible. It represents a splendid Italian mountain valley where nature intertwines with everyday life. In the foreground on the right a woman is washing clothes in a washhouse while on the left a small stone mountain hut. The painter also includes animals in the scene: some chickens in front of the hut and some cows grazing in the green meadow of the valley. The snow-capped mountains that meet the blue sky close the representation in the background. The painter uses color in a very material way, with full-bodied brush strokes that create volume to the scene. The colors are vivid and perfectly represent the shades of a verdant valley. The painter wants to bring the viewer into the simple daily life of the people who live the mountain with its colors, its nature and its animals. The painting is accompanied by a beautiful golden frame.
