About the Item

Painted by Leslie Snow Feron, an important New Hampshire artist along with her husband, Louis Feron, this large and remarkable painting depicts a nude Jacob, all ruddy like a hot, live coal, wrestling with an impassive and unmovable angel, painted in cooler tones of pale yellow and blue. Feron was first known as a dancer in the 1950s and early 1960s, performing in New York and elsewhere with Martha Graham Dance, the Charles Weidman Dance Company and others. After marrying Louis Féron, who was known for his sculpture and jewelry making, Leslie concentrated on painting and exhibited her work at Skidmore College, The Currier Museum of Art, and the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
