Expressive still life by Dutch artist Jelle “Jelly” Hoogstra (1924–2003), painted in 1985. A graduate of the Arnhem and Rotterdam academies, Hoogstra developed a distinctive gestural style influenced by post-war European expressionism. This work exemplifies his dynamic technique—created using brushes, knives, and even his hands—featuring a richly layered composition with bold contrasts and earthy tones.
