About the Item

"About the artist Félix Labisse, born March 9, 1905 in Marchiennes and died January 29, 1982 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, was a French surrealist painter whom the surrealists, however, refused to recognize as one of their own. On the fringes of André Breton’s movement, he was linked in 1947-1948, because of his friendship with Christian Dotremont, to the adventure of revolutionary surrealism. From the early 1940s, his work was recognized and supported by Robert Desnos, Paul Éluard, Philippe Soupault, Jacques Prévert. Patrick Waldberg devoted an important monograph to him in 1970. In addition to his career as a painter, Labisse pursued a career as a decorator for theater, dance and opera. Description A surrealistic lithography made by the French artist Felix Labisse. The woman is standing front-faced towards the viewer, with her slick black hair covering all of her features. She isn’t wearing anything on top and is covering her breast with her two arms crossed over her chest. The background is greying, with blue, orange, green and purple details. The paper is signed by the artist with his name as well as numbered in the other corner, 89/130.
