About the Item
A large and impressive mid-20th Century nude oil on canvas painting by the Belgian artist, Maurice Felbier 1903 - 1991.
The artist has used a pallet of soft and subtle colours capturing the gently, relaxed mood of his reclining model. Maurice Felbier was born in Antwerp in 1903. He became a talented painter and woodcarver. He was educated at the Academy 1919-1922 Maurice Felbier. All of his work was imbued with a literary and symbolic sensibility. In 1939, Felbier was elected a member of the art group Cercle 't Getij and in 1950 he was appointed Professor at L'Académie d'Anvers, a post which he held until 1968. Works by Felbier are held in the collection of La Musée d'Anvers.
