One of a kind, handcrafted display cabinet with a rare religious artefact. This excellent wall display cabinet still opens and closes perfectly and it comes with the original antique glass in the door. Finding antiques with the original glass with that beautiful ripple in it, always makes those pieces extra desirable (in our view). The striking acorn and leaf motifs in the handcrafted, molded borders of the door too are very stylish features to enjoy. Over the decades the gilding has slightly warn off, which has created a marvelous patina. Given the style, age and perfect fit, we think that this antique wall cabinet was specifically made for the rare religious fragment that it is holding. Beautiful large tile painting of a Gothic church interior by W.B. van Horssen (1863-1931). We very recently purchased a small collection of very rare antique plaques, tiles and vases by some of the best known maker's in the history of Dutch ceramics. This unique, hand-crafted and hand-painted work of art is the first one of that collection and this stunning and rare, single tiles plaque is in its original wooden frame. Because of their contrasting colors, the frame and tile painting go together really well. And these are in fact two works of art, because both the stunningly hand-painted tile and the wooden frame are as good as they come. With the borders of the frame coming as far outward as they do and the Gothic church interior that is drawing your attention deep into the back of the church, they really complement each other. However beautiful the frame is, this antique ofcourse is about the painting and this particular painting is by one of Rozenburg's finest (Wijnand Bastiaan van Horssen) who has perfectly managed to enhance the depth that is already in this composition, thus creating a visual effect that is an absolute joy to look at. By the way, the price that you see on the 'sticker' that the former owner put on the back after he had purchased this piece was put there in the 'old days' when we still had the Dutch guilder. The original painting of the Nieuwe Kerk in the Hague Holland (built in circa 1650) was by J. Bosboom. Besides one small old crack and a few minor imperfections to the frame, this unique and wonderful work of art is in very good condition still and may it grace the home or chapel of a Gothic style enthousiast soon. Mind you, because of their relative fragility very few of these amazing and high value works of art are still around. Rozenburg of the Hague, where this unique tile painting was created, was always one of the greats in Dutch ceramics and many of their works grace museums all over Europe. Rozenburg’s shareholders included the likes of the marine painter H.W. Mesdag (1831-1915) and the poet and literary critic Carel Vosmaer (1826-1888), and its tile painters numbered rising artists like Willem de Zwart...
