About the Item

This continental large size turn of the century (19th-20th) oil painting on canvas is set in an antique giltwood frame. The scene is placed in what seems to be the edge of a forest. A lovely shepherdess, dressed in red and blue, is surrounded by five sheep, one of whom seems to be staring at the viewer. There is a lot of grace and delicacy in the treatment of the scene. The viewer almost feels like not breathing, by fear of interrupting the moment. The exquisite giltwood frame is made of intricate volutes, acanthus leaves and floral motifs, enhancing the delicacy of the ensemble.
