Large Coastal Scene by American Painter Wesley Webber

About the Item
Framed in a wonderful water gilt frame with name plate centered beneath painting reading "Eastport Point, W.Webber."
Webber was a landscape and marine painter who was born in Gardiner, Maine and died in Wollaston, Massachusetts. He was considered one of the finer painters of the Conway area of New Hampshire and along the New England coast. Webber was a self taught artist whose style is reminiscent of the Hudson River School.
Webber served in the Civil War and was present at the surrender of General Lee at Appomattox. The original sketches he made at the surrender along with finished illustrations of the Civil War brought Webber considerable fame, recognition, and fortune.
