About the Item
Signed 'Landgraf'. Landgraf was known as a figure painter, active at Derby from 1880-1885, following a period of employment at Brown-Westhead, Moore. John Twitchett and Betty Bailey reproduce an 1878 letter from Landgraf, Royal Crown Derby, p. 218, Appendix 4, which indicates that from 1873-1878 he had been also employed as a "first artist" at the Royal Manufactory in Berlin.
