About the Item

Large Vibrant Green, Pink, White Abstract Acrylic and Alkyd Resin Painting on Canvas by John Link titled "Precession" 2007. Painting on canvas by the Late Midwestern Artist John Link, mounted in a wood frame. This work, entitled ""Precession", is one of several large Link pieces available exemplifying his technique of richly layering tones of acrylic paint using an alkyd spirit resin. Link detailed this process: “The medium is indeed "acrylic" but not what most people mean by acrylic - which is waterborne acrylic. Instead this is acrylic resin dissolved in turps, with a dash of alkyd resin thrown in to stabilize it so the next layers of paint do not re-dissolve it. Thus it does not muddle up like repeated layers of watercolor can. This stuff does not yellow either, like oil, and a glass of it looks like a glass of water, it is that clear, thus preserving the intensity of the pigment. Also, because it is clear when wet, there is no "pastel effect" like you get with waterborne acrylic, where you must let a glaze dry before you see what you have. It is WYSIWYG to the core." Link (1942 - 2021) was born in Oklahoma City, began his career in Illinois, headed the art dept at Virginia Tech, spent the latter part in the Midwest again, in Western Michigan at WMU. Link was a literal genius, having an IQ of 160 with a Bachelors in Philosophy as well as his Masters in painting; He was a common contributor to numerous publications discussing art theory and technique. His work exists in many public and private collections, not limited to but including the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, CA, deYoung Museum, San Francisco, CA, Farnell Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, Osaka University of the Arts, Osaka, Japan We are thrilled to offer the last known available paintings from Link's life's work. These paintings are "space-makers"- immediately lending a sense of grandeur and passion to a room.
