About the Item

Large mythological oil painting of the Triumph of Venus, circle of Nicolas Poussin, 19th century Impressive large-format oil on canvas depicting the triumph of Venus in a marine cortege filled with nymphs, tritons, and winged cherubs. The composition, with a strong narrative and academic character, draws on classical models popularized by Nicolas Poussin and his school in the 17th century, revived in the 19th century by historicist workshops seeking to recreate great mythological scenes with monumentality and precision. The canvas, with delicately modulated flesh tones, powerful marine horses, and dramatic, undulating fabrics, reflects a neoclassical taste that connects with the French and Italian Baroque tradition. The widespread crackling is consistent with the work's age, and the period frame reinforces its decorative presence. frame 187x131 canvas 170x114
