About the Item
Late 19th Century landscape painting oil on canvas signed Jennie Young in its original frame. I believe this painting is by Jennie Brownscombe Young (1858-1934) an American painter, illustrator and designer.
She is known for her genre scenes, landscapes, and portraits. Young studied at the Art Students League in New York City under Lemuel Wilmarth and
Henry Siddons Mowbray.
She exhibited her work at the National Academy of Design, the
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the World's
Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.
Young's paintings often depict scenes of rural life, with figures
engaged in everyday activities such as farming, fishing, and
gathering. Her landscapes are characterized by their naturalistic
depiction of light and atmosphere. She was a member of the
National Arts Club and the Woman's Art Club of New York. The oil painting is in very good condition, frame is original with chips shown in the photos.
