About the Item
Oil on canvas painting of group of gentlemen telling tales at the pub by German artist Fritz Wagner. The painting is signed in the lower right corner and presented in a period frame measuring 32" x 39.5" overall.
Fritz Wagner was a painter of still life, landscapes and genre scenes usually with cavaliers. He was born in Zurich on 20 July 1896 and travelled throughout Europe. Wagner studied at the Academie de la Brera de Milan.We have had the good fortune to handle a number of Wagner’s works over the years. Both his beautifully crafted interiors and highly detailed figures contribute to a winning recipe. The choice of period costumes and settings was quite a deliberate move by Wagner enhancing the decorative value of his subjects. To each figure he gave a different character enabling the viewer to read into the situation presented.
