About the Item

Painted by an important Spanish artist depicting a likely Swedish gentleman living in France, this portrait was made in 1929 at the height of the Jazz Age, just before the Depression brought everything down. The man is debonair and sophisticated, with a gorgeous suit cut just so, a lovely striped blue tie, a good haircut, and a quizzical look that casts doubt on it all. The artist was Víctor María Cortezo , who acted as costume designer, production designer, and art designer for numerous Spanish movies and TV projects, known for his good taste and good eye. He was also known for his paintings, such as this one, and he clearly was a man of the continent, working in France as well as Spain. The painting is watercolor and gouache on paper. It is signed and dated. Dimensions include the frame.
