About the Item
András Markó (1824–1895) was a Hungarian painter who lived and worked between 1824 and 1895. He left behind numerous outstanding works and played a significant role in Hungarian art life.
Markó's oeuvre combined elements of Romanticism and Realism. His paintings often depicted landscapes, rural life, as well as historical and religious themes. Some of his well-known works include "Rest of the Shepherds" and "Before the Storm."
Additionally, András Markó played an important role in Hungarian art institutions, such as the Hungarian Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He also worked as a teacher, leaving his influence and legacy not only through his own creations but also through the artists he mentored and the artistic environment he contributed to.
