Miniature depicting a Vanitas Memento Mori, painted in tempera on paper. The frame, made of ebonized fruitwood and finished with black wax, is oval in shape, with an internal oval bordered by a gilded brass decoration that holds the convex glass. The miniature depicts a still life, depicted on a shelf containing two books and a skull-shaped vase from which a large bouquet of flowers—roses, zinnias, and branches of foliage—emerge. Italy, late 18th century.
